WCUdaipur, wordcamp

#WCUdaipur 😍😍😍

After a mind numbing 15 hour train journey, I and Ajit Bohra reached the Royal city of Udaipur. Weather was so much more good than what we experience here in Mumbai, that I and Ajit decided to walk 2 kms to hotel with our luggage.

While the hotel that we stayed was below average, it was in city centre which made it easy for us to get Uber’s, Salons and other important things.

The pre-event speaker party was in such a beautiful place that if I would have had a girlfriend then I would have proposed her to marry me in that party. But as there wasn’t any, I focussed on meeting some amazing people like Vachan Kudmule, Hardeep Asrani, Devin Walker, Hari, Prathamesh Palve, Punit Sahlot, and many many more… Along with good company we were also spoilt by finger licking delicious food. The auto ride back was an extortion but every bit of it was enjoyable because of the most kind hearted boy I have ever met, Master Prathamesh Palve from CybroGeek.

On the day of the event, as usual we were late as we were busy finding coffee to wake us up. But it was not only us or our coffee at blame, Prathamesh too was late as usual. We reached venue to be welcomed by humble Gagandeep at the registration desk and ever smiling Amit Singh at the Swag counter. Oh that sexy paper bag of Swag, I was so much in love that I volunteered to even pick Ajit’s bag. 😋😋😋

While we were munching on delicious breakfast Vaidehi had already started her talk which was first in the day on Track 1. After our talk, I and Ajit attended some interesting talks by Rahul Bansal, Bigul, Gaurav, Amit and both the Panels. One has to agree that every talk had good content. The networking area was pretty huge and we did meet a lot of people there.

The organisation and arrangements my #wcudaipur team was applaudable. I even tweeted to Punit, urging to hire me so that I can learn this organisation skills from him. He kept his modest stance and didn’t hire me. 😑

Right from setting up the website, designing a good brand to choosing the right combination of food and hospitality that even Taj hotel cannot match, WCUdaipur team was super awesome.

The after party at Arjun baug was not only amazing but also a perfect place to meet and network. The gentleman who owned the place honoured us by sitting with us till 1:30 am and sharing a drink with us. THANK YOU SIR.

Then the After After party started when Vraj, Shikha and Punit took us to this amazing dhaba in middle of no where, where we lit a fireplace and joked, talked and had lot of fun till morning. We were even served tea by a Mummy (I don’t mean Mother) with a very wicked smile who ignored me like an annoyed partner. 😏😏

The day after we bumped on RTCampers, Isabelle and Amit Singh’s family during breakfast where we had a big Indian Family reunion & breakfast. All in all #wcudaipur reminded me of big fat Gujarati wedding, where there are amazing people, humble hospitality, finger-licking delicious food, stomach ache inducing jokes and opportunity to meet lots and lots of important people.

Thank you team #wcudaipur for taking this effort and bringing all these WP lovers together. Hope to see everyone soon together again at #WCKochi.

Until then Khamma Ghani.

The Buzzword ‘UX’, Why it is so important?

October 16, 2016, I climbed a new step. I became a speaker. Amazing folks who are spearheading the WordPress community in Nashik (A town 130kms from Mumbai, India) had organised their first WordCamp on that day, and they gave me an opportunity to speak at their event.

Here is the video of my talk at the event. The topic of talk was “The Buzzword ‘UX’, Why it is so important?”

Here’s how you can preview your Sketch designs on Android Phone

Sketch has got a lot of fan fare and if you ask me personally, I love using it. (In fact, I am in process of creating a full fledged tutorial on how to use Sketch for your daily work).

While Sketch has some very robust features when it comes in assisting you to design for iOS platform, it kind of falls short at a lot of places while helping you to design for Android. When the developers of Sketch asked their users about the views on what they can do to improve the workflow. Lot of designers responded with a request to make Sketch Mirror for Android. Sketch Mirror is an iOS-only app, which lets you preview your designs directly on devices (using some smart web sockets trickery, i think). Unfortunately, Bohemian Coding has not yet developed it for Android.

But, don’t worry. I found a workflow that lets you to preview your designs directly on your Android phones with a keystroke in Sketch. It involves a Sketch Plugin called sketch-preview by Marc Schwieterman, Skala Preview for your Mac and Skala View for your Android Phone.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can start previewing your designs on your Android devices.

Step 1 : Download the Sketch Preview plugin from this link. (freeware). Download Skala Preview for Mac from this link. (freeware). Download Skala View for your Android device from this link. (freeware)

Step 2 : Install Sketch Preview plugin by clicking on Plugins menu and selecting Reveal Plugins Folder. Unzip your Sketch Preview plugin files and paste them in the folder that had opened by Reveal Plugins Folder command. Restart Sketch. On restarting you will get 2 new options in Plugins menu. a) Preview b) Preview Setup. Read the documentation on the plugin page to get an in-depth understanding of Preview Setup.

Step 3 : Install Skala Preview on your Mac and Skala view on your Android device

Step 4 : Connect Skala Preview and Skala View. To do this make sure that your Mac and Android device are on same wi-fi network. In your Skala view on your Android device, click on the monitor/tv icon and select your Mac. When you do that you will be prompted to authorize the device on your Mac in Skala Preview app. Approve the authorisation.

Step 5 : Preview your design on your device by selecting the artboard that you want to preview and pressing ⌘P. This will push your artboard to Skala Preview on your Mac, which will sync it with your Android device. Everytime you update your design, press ⌘P and see the live preview of your updated design on your device.

At times there are problems in syncing the designs between Mac and Android device. If this happens with you, just go ahead and click on monitor/tv icon again on your Android device and select your Mac again and everything should work just fine.

If you have any better workflow to preview designs on Android, please feel free to share as a response to this story.

P.S. : If you do not want to buy the Sketch Mirror from Apple App Store, you can use the same workflow to preview your designs on your iOS device. You can download the Skala View for iOS from here.
